It's never too late to educate!

I once heard Dr. Leonard W. Heroo say:

If you read the right books, at the rate of one book a week for one year, you could gain the equivalent of a Harvard education.

He should know. He was a graduate of Harvard and Yale.

When you're reading books, you never run out of things to say. Your mind is always churning on new ideas and new possibilities. Stop and consider the value of a book:

A book is incredibly powerful because it gives you leverage. The author could have spent years of his or her life studying a subject, reading everything that had already been written, learning from the best, summarizing different theories, and simplifying complex ideas. After ten years of research, thousands of hours and millions of pages can be condensed into a concise little 200 page novel, and little old you comes along to get it for $10. —Brian Armstrong, Lifehack

We spend far too much time doing shallow reading on the Internet. Someone suggested following the 80/20 rule when it comes to reading. Basically, what that means is you spend 80 percent of your time reading books and 20 percent reading from other sources.

So here's the challenge: The secular world has laid out a list of books to keep you reading one book a week for 52 weeks, to become a self-made scholar in a year's time. As a Christian, I would not want to fill my mind with the ungodly philosophy contained in many of the books on that list.

Instead, I believe a Christian can become a self-made scholar by studying the Bible and Christian classics. And, yes! I believe it's possible to become a self-made Christian scholar by reading a book a week for a year, if you're careful about the books you choose. Think how it could impact your life!

Click here to begin your journey into a life-changing Christian book.

You Changed My Life by Max Lucado

This treasured gift book is a 2011 Christian Book Award Winner filled with stories of real people with remarkable hearts.

If someone has changed your life for the good, now is the time to celebrate by letting them know how much they matter.

This gift book celebrates their story by first providing a dedication beginning with "You changed my life by___" to be written in detail by the giver to the recipient. To follow are stories told by Max about others who have answered the call of their convictions and took steps of faith (both big and small) resulting in lasting change in the lives around them.

Kauffman Amish Bakery Book One: Gift of Grace by Amy Clipston

Book One of the Kauffman Amish Bakery series. Take a trip to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, where you'll meet the women of the Kauffman Amish Bakery in Lancaster County.

When Rebecca Kauffman's older sister, who left the Amish community when she was a teenager, dies in an automobile accident, Rebecca is left custody of her two modern non-Amish teenage nieces, Jessica and Lindsay. Will she be able to reconcile the two worlds in her home---or will the clash of cultures tear her world, including her marriage, apart?

As each woman's story unfolds, you will share in her heartaches, trials, joys, dreams - and secrets. You'll discover how the simplicity of the Amish lifestyle can clash with the "English" way of life - and the decisions and consequences that follow. Most importantly, you will be encouraged by the hope and faith of these women, and the importance they place on their families.

Rebecca Kauffman's tranquil Old Order Amish life is transformed when she suddenly has custody of her two teenage nieces after her "English" sister and brother-in-law are killed in an automobile accident. Instant motherhood, after years of unsuccessful attempts to conceive a child of her own, is both a joy and a heartache. Rebecca struggles to give the teenage girls the guidance they need as well as fulfill her duties to Daniel as an Amish wife.

Rebellious Jessica is resistant to Amish ways and constantly in trouble with the community. Younger sister Lindsay is caught in the middle, and the strain between Rebecca and Daniel mounts as Jessica's rebellion escalates. Instead of the beautiful family life she dreamed of creating for her nieces, Rebecca feels as if her world is being torn apart by two different cultures, leaving her to question her place in the Amish community, her marriage, and her faith in God. Fireproof: Never Leave Your Partner Behind with Kirk Cameron & Erin Bethia - DVD

Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. Inside burning buildings, it's his natural instinct. In the cooling embers of his marriage, it's another story.

After seven years of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that they are ready to move on without each other. Yet as they prepare to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's dad asks his son to try an experiment: The Love Dare.

While hoping The Love Dare has nothing to do with his parents' newfound faith, Caleb commits to the challenge. But can he attempt to love his wife while avoiding God's love for him? Will he be able to demonstrate love over and over again to a person that's no longer receptive to his love? Or is this just another marriage destined to go up in smoke?

With several action-packed scenes, FIREPROOF uses fire metaphors in its exploration of marriage. The film offers an alternative to the common romantic comedy and, some might argue, a more multidimensional view of romance. The film examines both the ups and inevitable downs of married life, offering faith as a prescription for saving what may at first glance appear to have already failed. Likely to please its target audience, the film offers a fresh perspective on marriage and inspiring relationship tips viewers may want to try regardless of their faith. Learn more.

Faith Deployed: Daily Encouragement for Military Wives

If your spouse, or someone you know, has been deployed recently, the stress of that situation will resonate with you. Jocelyn Green speaks directly to the wives of deployed seamen, marines, airmen, and soldiers, via the experiences of their spouses.

This book is not a "ten easy steps" for a painless life. Instead, it is a collection of devotions that squarely addresses the challenges wives face when their husbands are away protecting freedom - challenges like: How does a military wife maintain a strong sense of patriotism without allowing her country to become an idol? What good can possibly come from moving every two to three years? And how can I be sure that God has a purpose for my life that is as strong as His purpose for my husband's?

The foundation of this devotional is the unchanging character of God and the anchor of Jesus Christ, even amidst the shifting circumstances of a military family. Learn more.
