It's never too late to educate!

I once heard Dr. Leonard W. Heroo say:

If you read the right books, at the rate of one book a week for one year, you could gain the equivalent of a Harvard education.

He should know. He was a graduate of Harvard and Yale.

When you're reading books, you never run out of things to say. Your mind is always churning on new ideas and new possibilities. Stop and consider the value of a book:

A book is incredibly powerful because it gives you leverage. The author could have spent years of his or her life studying a subject, reading everything that had already been written, learning from the best, summarizing different theories, and simplifying complex ideas. After ten years of research, thousands of hours and millions of pages can be condensed into a concise little 200 page novel, and little old you comes along to get it for $10. —Brian Armstrong, Lifehack

We spend far too much time doing shallow reading on the Internet. Someone suggested following the 80/20 rule when it comes to reading. Basically, what that means is you spend 80 percent of your time reading books and 20 percent reading from other sources.

So here's the challenge: The secular world has laid out a list of books to keep you reading one book a week for 52 weeks, to become a self-made scholar in a year's time. As a Christian, I would not want to fill my mind with the ungodly philosophy contained in many of the books on that list.

Instead, I believe a Christian can become a self-made scholar by studying the Bible and Christian classics. And, yes! I believe it's possible to become a self-made Christian scholar by reading a book a week for a year, if you're careful about the books you choose. Think how it could impact your life!
